The Shova Integrated Drill Steel (Shova IDS) for roof bolting comprises a shank adaptor, drill steel shank(s), and couplings if applicable. The Shova IDS is specifically designed to work with the Mbovana roof bolting jig, complete with jackhammer, but can also be used in other roof bolting equipment.

The patented drill steel shank design makes the Shova IDS unique in the market. The manner in which the shank has been shaped significantly enhances its strength, making it approximately 300% stronger than traditional hex bar. The material used to manufacture the drill steel shank is less expensive and easer to source than traditional options. The integrated nature of the drill string facilitates heat treatment of only the necessary components, not the entire drill string, further reducing costs.

Shova can provide custom length drill steels. As a result, the Shova system will reduced the number of drill steels, and thus drill passes required. The benefits of this advancement include greatly reduced drilling times. As a result of fewer couplings, one can expect faster penetration rates, as each coupling would normally reduce percussion through the drill string by at least 5%. Finally, the drill steels reduce bending moments through the drill string, reducing the risk of breakages.
